The FPC is a three-day conference that aims to help Chinese graduate students understand the complex forces that shape American foreign policy, so that they can become better equipped to play constructive, well-informed roles in the future management of Chinese policy vis-à-vis the United States. The program will take place in Washington, D.C. from May 29-31 and is held at the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs, with cooperation from the Sigur Center for Asian Studies. The application deadline for the program is Monday, May 6.

FPC Speakers & Site Visits
The FPC is attended by 150 to 200 Chinese graduate students and features presentations, panels, and Q&A from the leading policymakers, academics, journalists, and business and NGO leaders who inform, develop, and implement U.S. foreign policy. Below is a list of some of the featured speakers of this year’s FPC:

 Keynote speaker, The Honorable Elaine L. Chao (赵小兰), the 24th U.S. secretary of labor and the first Asian-American woman appointed to a U.S. president’s cabinet

 The Honorable Cui Tiankai (崔天凯),Chinese ambassador to the United States

 Erin Ennis, vice president of The US-China Business Council

 James Goldgeier, dean of American University's School of International Service

 Kin Moy, deputy assistant secretary for East Asian and Pacific affairs at the U.S. Department of State

 Vali Nasr, dean of the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and former senior advisor to U.S. special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke

 Randall Schriver, senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, founding partner of Armitage International LLC, and CEO and president of the Project 2049 Institute

 Will Wechsler, deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism at the U.S. Department of Defense

The above is only a sampling of this year’s speakers; more to be announced soon. FPC participants will have opportunities to engage with speakers and will also visit an organization involved in U.S. foreign policy. These site visits range from American government agencies to think tanks, from media to non-profit organizations. This year’s site visits include: the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Center for Strategic International Studies, Human Rights Watch, the Environmental Defense Fund, and more.

FPC Logistics & Application
Graduate students of all academic disciplines are welcome. The application deadline is Monday, May 6. Applications can be completed easily using the online application.

Applicant qualifications:

 Must be a PRC graduate student currently enrolled at a U.S. university

 All academic disciplines welcome

 Strong spoken English ability

 First-time program participants only

Cost:

 Housing and meals are provided free of charge during the program, except for Thursday evening dinner, which is left open so that participants can explore the D.C. area on their own

 All other costs, i.e. travel and miscellaneous expenses, to be covered by participant
