The Department of Psychology at Georgetown University is recruiting a Chinese-speaking Research Assistant to assist with research projects in the field of cultural psychology
If you are interested in culture, especially in the role that culture plays in influencing emotion development in children (for example, why American children notice more emotions of themselves while Chinese children notice more emotion of others), you might want to keep reading because we have very cool research opportunities for you!
Lab: Culture and Emotion Lab (PI: Dr. Yulia Chentsova-Dutton; PhD student: Jinli Wu) Research Focus:
• Cultural psychology (e.g. East Asians versus Caucasian Americans),
• Emotion and affective science
• Cultural family processes and child development (e.g. parenting practices/ideologies in minority families)
Duties:
• You will assist with existing lab projects. There are multiple ongoing projects in the lab which will pique your interest if you are interested in culture and psychology
• Your responsibility will follow a progressive trajectory. That is to say, you will begin with more basic jobs such as participant recruitment and data collection, then move on to more complex tasks such as lit review and data analysis
• Commitment of 5-20 hours weekly, depending on your availability and our needs
Qualifications:
• Strong interest in cultural phenomena
• Bicultural and bilingual individuals are very welcome!
• You do not have to be a psychology major, but we expect you to have at least some background in psychology (we will judge case by case)
• Both undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply
• You do NOT have to have previous research experience
Benefits:
• You will gain rich research experience, which is essential for grad school applications
• Intimate mentorship from the PI and PhD student (we are a small lab so you will get a lot of attention from the lab)
• Social/networking experience with other RAs (again, we are a close-knit lab!)
• Letter of recommendation*
• Opportunities for conference presentations and publication!!*
Items marked with * are contingent upon lab involvement and performance
Note: This position is UNPAID
If interested, please send your transcript, resume (or CV), and a cover letter to jw1935@georgetown.edu. We will contact you for interviews if we see a good fit.
